We are not certain about the progress of research into kiosk costs. Need to discuss at a future meeting.
Suggestions have been floated to use vines to cover walls affected by graffiti. We need to define the areas involved, and whether these areas are plantable. Laura and others can donate some vines, if locations are defined. Litter has been found in some areas, and may be a topic that we need to take up at a future date. Work parties to bag litter with coordinated pickup by the city is one possibility.
Suggestions were made that work parties could be placed on the calendar at this web site. Could notices also be put under the listing of SW Path activities, or is this too much work? (Nobody here to answer the question). It was also suggested that emails to this committee could include mention of new postings at the web site, as people stop checking when there is no activity at the site. It was agreed that the site has been useful.
One proposal from the city was for a "rolling celebration" July 21, beginning at the Capital City Trail end of the path, and progressing along the path with stops in each neighborhood for refreshments , welcome by the neighborhoods, and thanks to volunteers. Questions were raised about who would be providing the refreshments, how we would publicize this event, whether there might be negative publicity from dissatisfied neighbors, and whether it might make sense to delay the opening until the entire path was complete (late August?). It was pointed out that this would allow some time for grass to grow, and would also give us an opportunity to work on publicity. We also discussed the possibility of a more traditional ribbon cutting ceremony, with a ride of the path from end to end. Ideas were suggested for making a handout to publicize the Friends of the SW Path, using the promotional articles prepared by the Ag. journalism students, and using this event as a fund-raising effort. We would need additional meetings to plan these things, and would not be prepared by July 21.
We would like to get together with Tony Fernandez at a future meeting to see the path maintenance plan.
Reminders to those who offered to write them- DMNA deadline is July 27, Midvale Heights deadline is July 1.
The City's dog control staff spoke at a recent DMNA meeting. According to Char, they reported that they don't have the staffing to police the path, but they will write an article explaining the city dog ordinance. This article should go to all the neighborhood newsletters.
Char proposed taking turns as chair and secretary, to avoid putting all the work on one person. Volunteers for the next meeting? The next meeting should be scheduled by email after we find out more about the plans for the path opening, so that we know how much time we have to plan, and how ambitious to get. We also need to discuss: kiosks, maintenance plan, updates on items above.
