The DMNA's mission is to foresee and call attention to emerging neighborhood trends and issues. It provides a forum for study, discussion and action. The DMNA serves as our representative to the larger community, in the neighbor-hood's best interest. The Association does not endorse candidates for public office.
The DMNA, with a current membership of 890 households
(about seventy percent of households in the neighborhood) and
105 businesses, extends from the University of Wisconsin Camp
Randall stadium to the intersection of the railroad tracks and
Odana Road.

DMNA committees are involved in the neighborhood in many ways. For example, Zoning played a key role in coordinating neighborhood input on the development of Knickerbocker Place, and monitors the commercial rentals at 1930 Monroe Street to help ensure compatibility with the surrounding neighbors. Transportation is working on a comprehensive neighborhood traffic management plan, especially focused on dealing with problems generated by high-volume and high-speed traffic on Monroe Street.
As of this writing, Long Range Planning is coming down the home stretch on identifying, evaluating and making recommendations about issues affecting the future of the Dudgeon-Monroe neighborhood. Jazz in the Park plans this annual social event, which is held in June at Wingra Park and provides music and entertainment in coordination with the lake cleanup effort managed by the Lake Wingra Committee.
Parkshelped work out a suitable location for the addition of toddler equipment at Dudgeon Park, and is working on maintaining and improving the Glenwood Children's Park, while Oak Savanna, in conjunction with the U.W. Arboretum, is restoring a native ecosystem to the undeveloped land between Monroe Street and Lake Wingra (across from the Dudgeon Center).
The Directory Committee publishes the neighborhood directory for DMNA members every two years, and the Hornblower Committee publishes our newsletter for neighborhood-wide distribution four times a year. History organizes efforts to obtain and archive information, documents, memoirs, and photographs of importance in the history of the Dudgeon-Monroe neighborhood.
Membershipcoordinates the annual membership drive and helps to organize our many volunteers.
Gardening, in addition to its past role of maintaining
the beautiful plantings around the neighborhood sign on Monroe
Street, organizes an annual summer show featuring
neighborhood gardens. The Social Committee also has established
successful new events: our annual fall potluck and January wine
tasting socials.
