DMNA News - Voting information for 6/5

Date: June 4th 2012

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Voting information from Maribeth Witzel-Behl, Madison City Clerk:

The polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. statewide tomorrow.  Everyone in line at 8 p.m. gets to vote.

Voter ID is still under injunction.  Nobody will be required to show their ID at the polls tomorrow.

City of Madison voters can find their polling place by going online to www.cityofmadison.com/WhereDoIVote.  Voters from anywhere in Wisconsin can find their polling place online at Voter Public Access, https://vpa.wi.gov.

Voters may check their voter registration and absentee ballot status online at https://vpa.wi.gov.

Anyone who moved within 28 days of the election (they have moved since May 8) will need to vote from their old address, at their old polling place.  State law now requires 28 days to establish residency.

You may register to vote at your polling place on Election Day with a document showing your name at your address.  Any one of the following documents will work:
Utility bill (cable, internet, cell phone, landline phone, water, gas, electric)
    Bank or credit union statement
    Government document of any type
Wisconsin driver license or ID card
    Paycheck
    Tax bill
    Residential lease
College photo ID accompanied by a fee statement

Absentee ballots can be put in the mail tomorrow.  As long as we receive them in the mail by 4 p.m. Friday, June 8, they will be counted.

That should cover the most frequently asked questions.  The Clerks Office will be open from 6 a.m. until all of the results have been returned at the end of the night.
