Earth Week Glenwood Work Party

Roald Gundersen of Whole Trees (www.wholetrees.com) will demonstrate a girdling technique on a cluster of black locust trees on the northeast side of the park. Tools will be available so you can help with this process. It is a great opportunity to appreciate our urban forest and to learn about managing the forest in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.  Work on the trees will start at 11am; you need not stay for the entire time.
We will remove garlic mustard throughout the park, plant native flowers around the entrance boulders and celebrate the placement of a commemorative placque.  Expect to see blooming bloodroot and Dutchman's breeches, two wildflowers found in the park.  We will have the famous "garlic mustard dumplings" as a noontime snack.  Tools and collection bags will be provided.  Wear sturdy shoes, gloves and some type of eye protection, such as sunglasses.  In the event of rain, call 233-1955 to verify that the event will still take place.

Event Date:
Sunday, April 27, 2014 - 11:00am to 2:00pm
