Monroe Street Reconstruction Planning Process Meeting

Purpose: This meeting is about organizing the 2-year planning PROCESS for the 2018 reconstruction of Monroe Street. It is NOT about the eventual design of the street itself, but ONLY about how the planning for that design will be done. Questions & suggestions about design will not be addressed at this time. The subsequent planning process will include ample opportunities for public input on the design of the street itself, but this is not one of those opportunities.

Expected Outcome: Organize the structure and function of an on-going Steering Team to provide “representation from Monroe Street Merchants Association, Public Health – Madison & Dane County, Friends of Lake Wingra, Wisconsin Environmental Initiative, Vilas Neighborhood Association, Dudgeon-Monroe Neighborhood Association, UW-Madison Departments of Landscape Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning, and other interested parties” in working with City Engineering in “developing a detailed plan and timetable for the planning and design process to take place in 2016 and 2017,” using Madison City Council Resolution 40602 ( as a guide. Please note that stakeholder representatives on the Steering Team will be asked to represent their associated groups, providing another channel for input.
