Dudgeon Monroe Neighborhood Police Department Contacts

After addressing concerns about traffic, graffiti, and other problems at DMNA council meetings, Captain Noble Wray of the South Madison Police District prepared the following guidelines to help residents obtain the police services they need:

Question: When do I call the South District Station (265-5938)?
Answer: When you have an ongoing problem or a concern that you want to discuss. You may also want to check the status of a case that we are handling. When you call you will be greeted by a receptionist and your call will be directed to the appropriate person. Keep in mind that upon phoning, you should immediately let us know the incident case number, or the name of the officer you would like to speak with. The South District Station's regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (closed certain holidays) and is normally staffed by Lieutenant Hughes, Lieutenant Lengfeld, and Captain Noble Wray.

Question: When do you call 911?
Answer: When you have a police emergency that needs immediate attention.

Question: When do you call the police non-emergency number (266-4275)?
Answer: When you need to see an officer but it is not an emergency situation.

Question: Can you call the police and remain anonymous?
Answer: Yes, but keep in mind that when you call the 911 Communications Center, the dispatcher will automatically know where the incoming call is coming from.

Question: Can you report something to the police without the police contacting you at home?
Answer: Yes, but the officer may want to make arrangements to take a statement from you at a different time or location. In this instance, the dispatcher may ask for a phone number where you can be contacted.

Question: Who do I call with an "on going" traffic problem?
Answer: The South District at 266-5938 or the Madison Police Department Traffic Section at 266-4622.

Question: How do I get in contact with a neighborhood officer, if one works in my neighborhood?
Answer: There are generally three ways to contact a neighborhood officer:
  1. All South District Neighborhood Officers have answering machines that are normally checked on the days that they are working. You can leave a message for them there, or you can call the South District Station (266-5938).

  2. Under certain circumstances neighborhood officers will give out their work pager number. In this case, the officer will personally discuss with you the proper times to get in contact with them.

  3. If you call the 911 Communications Center and the neighborhood officer is working in their neighborhood, they will most likely dispatch the call to the officer.

Question: When should I contact the Educational Resources Officer (ERO) at West High School?
Answer: When you observe something that needs police attention. Please keep in mind that the ERO will only handle problems that are directly related to the school. He/she can be reached at 261-9200. You will still need to contact the 911 Communications Center for problems in you neighborhood.
