Become a hero! Be part of the solution! The DMNA Transportation
Committee is moving at a rapid PACE to make a difference in our
quality of life!
Want to help us do it? It's free, fun, easy and effective!
First some background. On August 31st, 1998, DMNA and the city announced changes to encourage walking and safe, responsible driving. At that time, the city lowered the speed limit along Monroe Street from 30 to 25 m.p.h. and Mayor Sue Bauman declared Monroe Street a Pedestrian Zone.
Pace cars are one method used to remind drivers of the lower speed limit on Monroe Street. The Transportation Committee owns a Pace Car sign (Drive 25!) that fits atop cars similarly to a pizza delivery sign. Even without the sign, we can all set a good example by slowing down to 25 mph on neighborhood streets and yielding to pedestrians in crosswalks. We are the majority of drivers on residential streets; even on Monroe Street we represent 40% of the traffic. We are a large enough group to influence other drivers if we model safe driving.
To schedule using the "Pace Car" sign, to join other efforts of the Transportation Committee or to ask a question, contact the committee chair.
Help spread the word that slower cars mean happier people!
