Wingra Clean Up & Mother's Day Butterfly Garden Planting

Join the Friends of Lake Wingra, Wingra Boats, UW Arboretum and Take a Stake in Our Waters volunteers in a team effort to ready Lake Wingra and the UW Arboretum woods near Wingra Boats for summer!
Saturday, May 10th—9:00 to 11:30 AM. Meet at Wingra Boats.
While some volunteers will paddle canoes to work along the shoreline, others will work along the woodland edges near the parking area for Wingra Park, and others will follow the woodland trails. Our goal is to pull garlic mustard and dame’s rocket, pick up trash, remove branches that block the trails or are in danger of falling, and have some fun checking out the native plants that will also be springing up at last! Toward the end of the morning, we’ll plant the area around Wingra Boats with milkweed to help struggling monarch butterflies.
If you have one, wear your Take a Stake t-shirt. If you don’t have one, you’ll receive as a thank you! Please wear long pants and sturdy, closed toe shoes for the work party. We will provide tools, training, gloves, and snacks. We also have a couple other tokens of our appreciation.
Pre-register by May 5th by emailing Jeanne at
Adults and children are welcome.  But anyone under 18 who will participate will need to have a waiver signed by a parent.
Please do not bring dogs to the work day.
